  3. Consider the following patient:

  5. Spectacle Rx:  -2.00 D. = -1.00 x 180
  6. K-reading: 43.00 @ 180; 44.00 @ 090

  8. With a spherical rigid lens on the eye there would be a lacrimal lens equal to -1.00 D. (difference between 43.00 D. and 44.00 D.) which would correct the spectacle cylinder.  Therefore, with a rigid, non-flexing lens on the eye the patient should have no uncorrected cylinder.

  10. With a spherical hydrogel lens on the eye, there would be no power to the lacrimal lens and there would be 1.00 D. of uncorrected astigmatism.

  12. If one desired to fit this patient with a hydrogel lens and to correct the astigmatism, a toric hydrogel lens would be required.
